The prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors according to resident area in women of central part of IRAN: IHHP

Background Considering the leading cause of mortality among women is cardiovascular diseases (CVD), control of CVD risk factors prevent CVD and its mortality.
Objective To determine the prevalence of CVD risk factors in central part of Iranian women are crucial.
Materials & Methods This descriptive cross sectional study was performed in three city of Iran in central part (Isfahan, Najaf-Abad and Arak) with total women of 6391. These person were above 19 years old. Demographic data, blood sample for glucose and lipids, detecting weight and height and blood pressure in 3 consecutive period were done.
Findings Hypertriglyceridemia, smoking and overweight were more prevalent in urban area, and hypertension, high LDL-C and hypercholesterolemia more were prevalent in rural area. Hypercholesterolemia, high LDL-C and diabetes increased with aging.
Conclusion According to the results the prevalence of risk factors are high in studied women. Then we must try to educate our women about changing lifestyle.
